Edenholme Commission

One of our talented artists, Margaret MacDonald painted a classic view of Stonehaven Bay in Acrylic for the Edenholme care home, situated in Arduthie Road, Stonehaven. The painting was a commission to commemorate one of the late residents, Elsie who passed away in February 2020.

April 2022

HIGHLIGHTSWhat a busy month April is turning out to be, two weekend workshops at St James church hall on Arbuthnot Street and and one evening demonstration at the community centre. We have many members exhibiting in galleries throughout Aberdeenshire and we also had several members exhibit their art works at the Inverbervie Annual Exhibition in the Burgh Hall at the beginning of April.WHAT’S BEEN…We kicked off the month with our first in person weekend workshop for over two years. John O'Neill took a group of 10 club members, myself included, through an introduction to painting landscapes in oils. The time passed by so quickly I even forgot to have lunch. We all learnt a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the day. From all those who attended we give a huge thanks to John for his time and patience. A second workshop will be held at the end of the month and due to demand he has also agreed to hold a third workshop in May. Watch this space for more as we will be asking John back for some Watercolour workshops.   On Wednesday 8th April our evening talk was given by Elaine Reid, a writer and artist based in Aberdeenshire. Combining her two passions she creates beautiful pieces of art through various media. We were guided through her 'Talking to the Tides' series and shown how she creates her images using cold wax, oil paints and writing. WHAT’S COMING…The end of the month 30th April sees the second of Johns workshops and on May 29th the third. Our new art in company group will commence in the Blue Room of the Community Centre on Wednesday May 11th for those members not attending the 'Pretty Rubbish Mosaics' evening demo at Dess.We are still working on the new membership area. The first thing to go up there will be a discussion/chat forum, then we'll work on a members profile area.Check out our Programme of Events page for the rest of this years evening talks. There are still a couple of TBA’s (To Be Announced) and these will be updated as and when. Judy is working on our workshops, so keep an eye out for updates.WATCH THIS SPACE…Our website will be updated to include a new Members area. All club members will be given access to an exclusive members page which will include a discussion forum to enable members to share  ideas, create opportunities for meetups, such as the Friday sessions, or just to let us know what else you would like the club to do. The topics could be as wide and varied as the members of the club. Then we are looking at adding a profile section where each member can add in further information about themselves and be able to share any links to your own social media pages, website, Facebook, Instagram etc… however we will ask if you do this, please share the club website details in return. The ultimate addition will be an upload area to add in your own art works…

New Club Year

HIGHLIGHTSWelcome to the new Stonehaven Art Club Year 2022.  The last couple of years have been difficult for all and it has been a challenge to keep the club on track, but a huge thanks must go to all our outgoing Committee for all the hard work done on keeping the club together. With the loss of the Townhall for refurbishment, COVID, and then the loss of the Invercarron Resource Centre it has not been easy to find a suitable location for our monthly gatherings, workshops and annual exhibition, however we have survived and can look forward to an active, social arty year.WHAT'S BEEN...This week saw our first meeting in the Blue Room at the Stonehaven Community Centre, we kicked off with the AGM and the election of a new Committee filled with faces old and new, then followed by a very interesting and informative talk from Contemporary Landscape Artist John O'Neill. John brought along a selection of both his recent Oil and his Watercolour paintings and will be our first workshop host to be held in April. Our picture is one of John's paintings with our outgoing President Ragnhild Ericsson wearing one of her delightful handknitted jumpers.WHAT'S COMING...Check out our Programme of Events page for this years evening talks. There are still a couple of TBA's (To Be Announced) and these will be updated as and when. Judy is working on our workshops, so keep an eye out for updates.During lockdown one of our long standing members, Liz Hunt, started an en plein air session down at the harbour on Friday mornings, weather permitting of course. I'm sure that these will commence again soon. Inspired by this, we are now including an evening informal art gathering to be held one Monday a month, at the Community Centre. Although the first of these will be held in the Blue Room on Wednesday 11th May, for those not wishing to attend the excursion to Pretty Rubbish Mosaics at Dess, as there are limited numbers for this event. After that the Monday session will begin. Details to follow.WATCH THIS SPACE...Our website will be updated to include a new Members area.
